Learning about the XML Site Map Generator

I’ve spent quite some time recently learning about a thing called the xml site map generator. It isn’t a complicated thing, but it is something worth learning about if you are going to be spending any time at all developing your own website. Well, I guess I should say that it is only worth taking the time to learn about if you actually want your site to do well.

The majority of online traffic comes through the most popular search engines like Google and Yahoo! These search engines understand that the internet is an ever evolving thing, and therefore, they must always be indexing all of the websites that are available online. They do this by sending out what they call “crawlers”, which scuttle from site to site categorizing each and every page. For the most part these crawlers are able to quickly and correctly categorize the pages in a website, but occasionally, they do make mistakes. In order to prevent this from happening to your website, you should install an xml site map generator. The xml site map generator works by correctly categorizing all of the pages of your site (with your help) before the crawler shows up to visit. That way when the crawler does come scuttling around, all it needs to do is look at the site map and it will have all the information it needs. With both of these together, you can have a site that is completely and correctly indexed by all the major search engines.
