I think there are a lot of people who treat their pets like their first children. Every time they are slightly sick, they bring them to the vet. If they are acting more tired one day than they do on a normal day, they take them to the vet, and they are always going to the veterinary compounding pharmacy to get their pet the medicine they need for the smallest symptoms. A lot of people do the same thing with their first kids. Once they’ve had two or three, they start to calm down and not worry so much, but I don’t really know a lot of pet owners who do the same thing. Our pets can’t talk to us, so if they are acting different there is usually a reason, even if there isn’t.
I try to let my dog fight everything himself. If he gets sick, I usually wait a few days for him to get it out of his system before I take him to the vet or run to the veterinary compounding pharmacy. Their bodies are made to fight illnesses without help, but if it lasts longer than a few days, I’ll take him in to get him some help.
I love my dog almost as much as I love my son, but I know that I need to let his immune system do its job before I rush him to the vet. If it’s good enough for my son, then it’s good enough for my dog.
